While yin yoga is a beautiful practice for any time of year, it’s especially lovely in the colder months as the body’s natural tendency is to curl inwards. The cooler temps tend to draw us into a place of stagnancy in the body.
This masterclass sequence is designed to open up the body in areas that don’t tend to get much TLC during the cooler months of the year.
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), water is the primary element of winter, and our sequence is designed to target the kidneys and urinary bladder by stimulating the meridians that run down the front and back of the spine, as well as down the back of the legs and up the inner thighs. Postures that encourage full circulation of the backline of the body especially the spine and the lower back around the kidneys, will help replenish our vital energy.
Our lungs also tend to get neglected this time of year, so we’ll use this time on our mat as an opportunity to return to the breath as well as a feeling of openness and ease in the body.
